IFWriter

Note: This is alpha software. It may (read : most definitely will) have bugs. If you choose to use it for a full production work of literature make sure you frequently save backups and export frequently.

This is my little project for creating interactive fiction.

The purpose of this project is for the user to be able to quickly and easily write interactive fiction that can then be exported to HTML. From there the writer can easily complete all formatting and editing for an easy export to formats like PDF, eReaders, or even print physical copies.

Just import your HTML document into any word processor and edit as needed 

Currently features are a bit bare, but I wanted to really nail the core feature-set before adding other options.

  • Write pages with titles
  • Create connections to new or existing pages
  • Export to html
  • Randomized Page Exports (so readers can't just skip through chronologically)
  • Options for serif, sans-serif, and large fonts
  • saving, loading and an autosave feature
  • Orphan page detection

  • Chronological page-number exports (for non-print document maps)

  • Custom font support
  • Custom color support (and dark mode)
  • Document Map Visualizer
  • Additional export options
  • Page links after export (for easy navigation in html or ebooks)
  • IFReader (for reading IFWriter documents)
  • Additional usability options(whatever that means)

  • Connect Existing Section "Cancel" button now works
  • "Existing" is now spelled correctly
  • Splash screen fades

  • Pages are now colored in the story map to indicate Connection, Text, and Reference issues. (Red for major issues - yellow for minor issues)
  • Pages also display icons if there are issues. These icons can be hovered over to discover what they mean.
  • There is now a "Tutorial" button which loads a file designed to teach how to use IFWriter, using IFWriter
